Venture Out into the Lokkawi Wildlife Park

It was such a perfect day to “be inspired by your journeys traveled and the ones yet to come” quotes by Sam Clark, why not let’s go on an adventure to one of Sabah’s wildlife parks on a bright and sunny day. After all Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is located along the Penampang – Papar old road and estimated about 20 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu. Officially the park opened to the public on the 17th February of 2007 and fully developed by the Sabah Wildlife Department. Occupying an area of 280 acres it is one of the largest wildlife parks in Borneo!

Generally the park consist of two section, which is Zoological and Botanical side. The main objective of this Wildlife Park is to “create a family-oriented park that emphasize on making it educational for children”. Furthermore you can see few endangered species that has been rescued from illegal logging, hunting and disaster zones that made them lost their home! Overall, lots of these rescued animals were from other people’s homes as an exotic pets. Here at the the wildlife park, among the well-known of the residents are the Borneo Pygmy elephants, Sumatran rhinoceros, Orangutan, Proboscis monkey, Malayan Tiger and few more species of deer.

Turning to the botanical garden that has been developed to highlight common species of the rain forest as well as some of the more unusual species such as pitcher plants, wild ginger and many more! Exclusively will give visitors an experience to go for a jungle trekking along the botanical trail. Indeed the readily paved trail is approximately 1.4 KM long and 200 acres in sizes! Under this circumstance visitors are not encouraged to goes for trekking deeper in the rain forest without telling the rangers due to the maintainability of the trek roadway. *Because visitors might get lost in the middle of the rain forest if they walk outside of the trekking pathway*
It was supposedly to be lively in the area of aviary section where you will hear myriads sounds of mynah, greeting for visitors who come to the park. Where there will be variety of birds for instance like horn-bill, pigeons, parrots, eagles, egrets and many more.

One of the highlight and not to be missed out is the animal shows that are on between 11.15 am and 3.15 pm. As for the animal feeding spans are from 10.15 am to 2.35 pm.
