Your journey begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Sandakan or lodge in Sepilok around 9:00 AM. From there, you’ll travel by 4WD deep into the interior, passing small villages and forested landscapes on a scenic 4 to 5-hour drive to Deramakot Forest Reserve. Upon arrival, check into the government resthouse and enjoy a simple orientation with the local ranger team. After an early dinner, prepare for your first night safari — a thrilling drive through the forest trails in search of nocturnal wildlife such as leopard cats, civets, and possibly even the elusive clouded leopard. Return to your lodge for an overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.
Rise early for a sunrise drive or guided walk to catch the forest at its liveliest. After breakfast, take some time to relax or enjoy optional nature walks near the lodge.
