Climbing Mount Kinabalu does not require special technical skills, however you would need to be relatively fit as the first day of the hike are mostly steps to the rest-house. Mount Kinabalu hike goes through from Timpohon Gate, where along the trails there are seven shelters for water and snack stops. Upon reaching the 6km mark there are three main accommodations made available for climbers here and there are Pendant Hut, Laban Rata Rest House and Lemaing Hut (the later is only cater for Malaysian climbers). Climbers can opt to choose among these accommodations provided here, Laban Rata is the biggest rest house with main restaurant where climbers would gather for a warm drink at 3,273 meters above sea level. Pendant Hut is a cozy cabin ideally for quiet time with close ones or simply have a good read while watching the sunsets over the horizon from some of its strategic spots outdoor.

Pickup from airport or hotel and depart for Kundasang Highland Resort stay, where you will spend your night before starting your climb the next morning. It is a good opportunity to get acclimatize to the elevation though.
On the way make a quick stop at Nabalu, small town where the locals gather to sell their produce. A varieties of handicrafts, fruits, vegetables – to name a few. Next, continue roughly another 20 minutes drive to the Kinabalu Park. Check in. Dinner and leisure time before retire to bed.
Wake up early in the morning and pack up. Breakfast at 07:00am. Don’t forget to get your packed lunch from the restaurant. Meet up at the Sabah Parks registration counter around 08:00am. Our team will assist to register for your hike, where then you will be given an ID Tag (do not lose the tag), a pack lunch and introduced to your mountain guide. Transfer to the starting point. Your climb will start off from Timpohon Gate, here you will get a safety briefing from your mountain guide. The hike today is for 6km, which takes about 4 to 6 hours depending on fitness to reach Laban Rata Rest house. Along the trail there are seven shelters and with toilets for the convenience of climbers. Tap water are available on every shelter as well, the locals (mountain guides and porters) would drink straight from the tap, however we recommend you to use water purification tablets if you choose to refill your water bottle.
Mount Kinabalu is home to more than 1,500 species of plants and animals, do take a break for lunch and to enjoy the fascinating montane forest with pitcher plants, and wild orchids growing wild along the trail.
Upon arrival at Laban Rata, check into your designated bed and settle in. At the restaurant you will have access to filtered drinking water to refill your water bottle. Dinner is served between 4.30 – 6.30pm and it is an early lights out at 8pm.

An early morning wake up for supper at 2.30am, meet up with your mountain guide to continue your summit climb for sunrise. Be sure to have your ID tag and headlamp with you during this portion of the climb to the summit, as there is a check point to inspect your ID tag. Witness an exhilarating sunrise from the highest point in Borneo, following a return to Laban Rata enjoy a full breakfast before checking out and descend back to the Timpohon Gate. On average most climbers will take 4 to 5 hours to descend. Our team will be waiting for you at the gate to take you to the restaurant at the Kinabalu Park headquarters for lunch before returning to Kota Kinabalu.
