Arrive at Lahad Datu Airport and begin your journey into one of Borneo’s last untouched rainforests. After registration at the Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC) welcome center and a quick safety briefing, check in to your simple yet comfortable forest lodge. Meet your guide, settle in, and enjoy a wholesome lunch surrounded by nature.
After lunch, take some time to unwind or speak with your guide to map out your days—each step tailored to your pace and interests. In the late afternoon, head out on a gentle walk around the center. This first foray into the rainforest introduces you to the region’s incredible biodiversity—keep an eye out for orangutans, hornbills, and other native species that often wander near the lodge.
Return before sunset, then enjoy a warm dinner served at 7:00 PM. As night falls, join your guide for a nature walk under the stars and discover the forest’s nocturnal wonders—or opt for a 4×4 night safari (optional, extra cost) for a chance to encounter rare wildlife in the dark. Every moment here brings you closer to the rhythm of the wild.
Rise early for a hearty breakfast before setting off on the highlight trek to see the world’s tallest tropical tree, the Shorea faguetiana (Tallest Meranti), standing over 100 meters tall. The hike will take you deep into the forest along rugged and rich terrain teeming with birds, bugs, and possibly orangutans and gibbons. Return in the afternoon for rest, followed by dinner and a guided night walk to discover the forest’s nocturnal life.
Today’s adventure includes a guided morning trek to Rhino Pool, a forest stream and waterfall ideal for a refreshing dip. After lunch and some leisure time, continue with an afternoon hike to the Coffin Cliff, an ancient burial site perched on a cliff with sweeping views of the canopy. Descend through the Segama trail before returning for dinner. Optional night safari available (weather dependent).
