Expect cooler temperatures, panoramic views, and the rare opportunity to summit on a backup day if the weather on Day 2 does not permit. This climb is perfect for those who prefer a slower pace, are concerned about altitude adjustment, or simply want to soak in more of Mount Kinabalu’s magic.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival at Kinabalu Park

(6.30 am – ideally)

Begin your journey with an early morning departure from Kota Kinabalu and drive to Kinabalu Park Headquarters. Upon arrival, complete the registration process and meet your mountain guide before proceeding to Timpohon Gate, the starting point of the climb. From here, trek through the montane forest for approximately 5 to 7 hours to reach Laban Rata Resthouse, where you’ll check in, have dinner, and spend the night at 3,272 meters.

Day 2Summit Attempt - Laban Rata

Wake up in the early hours of the morning for your summit attempt. Begin the ascent around 2:00 AM, reaching Low’s Peak (4,095m) in time to witness the stunning sunrise (weather permitting). After enjoying the views from the summit, descend back to Laban Rata for breakfast. The rest of the day is free for you to relax, recover, and soak in the cool mountain air. Overnight at Laban Rata.

Day 3Laban Rata – Kota Kinabalu

If the weather prevented a successful summit on Day 2, you’ll have a second opportunity to attempt it early this morning. Otherwise, enjoy a relaxed start and a hearty breakfast. Afterward, begin your descent back to Timpohon Gate, where you’ll be transferred to Kinabalu Park HQ and then return to Kota Kinabalu, concluding your mountain adventure.
