Miri, is known for its thriving oil that is lively and modern. Serving as a major gateway, to destinations like the Kelabit Highlands or the national parks of Gunung Mulu, Niah or Lambir Hills, you will need to pass this way. Several good destinations that should not be missed out here is the Niah National park where some of human remains discovered here dated way back to 40 millenia ago. It offers a spectacular nature walk and cave exploring covering the Painted Cave and the Great Cave. For a fun and relaxation down time Lambir National Park is perfect, the waterfall offers a good swim and picnic spot. Traverse further down south to Bintulu Similajau National Park, offering an exceptional hiking trails ranging from 2 km to 6 km distance. The highlight of Similajau National Park is the Turtle Beaches with an occasional landings by the green, hawksbill and leatherback turtles.
