(12.30 pm to 2 pm – ideally) Meet at your hotel or at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Drive up the Crocker Range, enjoy the beutiful countryside view. Arrive in the highland town of Kundasang, nestled at the foothills of Mount Kinabalu. Check in to your cozy lodge and take in the refreshing mountain air and scenic views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. You’ll have the evening free to relax, enjoy the cool weather, or explore the nearby local market and dairy farm if time permits. Dinner will be served at the lodge as you prepare for the adventure ahead.
After an early breakfast, head for the National Park for the registration and collect your climbing ID. After which, you’ll be transferred to Timpohon Gate (1,866m), the starting point of your ascent. The trek to Panalaban spans 6 km and typically takes 4 to 6 hours, depending on pace. Along the way, you’ll pass through ever-changing forest zones and encounter unique mountain flora, including orchids and pitcher plants. Upon arrival at Panalaban Hut, check in and rest before attending the mandatory Via Ferrata familiarization and safety briefing at Pendant Hut. With the summit climb ahead, you’ll turn in early for the night.
Your summit push begins in the early morning hours, with a 2:00 AM start. Equipped with a headlamp and your guide, you’ll make your way up the granite slopes toward Low’s Peak (4,095m), aiming to reach the summit by sunrise — a breathtaking reward for your effort. After soaking in the views, you’ll descend to the Via Ferrata starting point to begin the Walk the Torq experience: an adrenaline-filled journey along steel rungs, ladders, and suspension bridges built into the mountain face. Once completed, you’ll return to Pendant Hut for breakfast and your Via Ferrata certificate. The descent back to Timpohon Gate takes about 4 to 5 hours, after which you’ll transfer to Kinabalu Park HQ for a late lunch and certificate collection before heading back to Kota Kinabalu.
