Itinerary

Day 1Kota Kinabalu – Kinabalu Park – Panalaban

(6:30  am — ideally)

Depart early from Kota Kinabalu and travel to Kinabalu Park. Upon arrival, complete the registration process and meet your mountain guide before proceeding to Timpohon Gate, the starting point of the climb. From here, trek through the montane forest for approximately 5 to 7 hours to reach Laban Rata Resthouse, where you’ll check in, have dinner, and spend the night at 3,272 meters.

Day 2Summit Attempt - Panalaban - Kota Kinabalu

Your summit push begins in the early hours of the morning, typically around 2:00 AM. With your headlamp on and your mountain guide leading the way, you’ll ascend the granite trails under a sky full of stars. The goal is to reach Low’s Peak (4,095m) by sunrise — a truly unforgettable moment as the first light breaks over Borneo.

After soaking in the panoramic views and capturing your summit photos, you’ll begin the descent back to Laban Rata for a well-earned breakfast. From there, continue your trek down to Timpohon Gate, which usually takes around 4 to 5 hours. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to Kinabalu Park HQ for certificate collection and a late lunch before returning to Kota Kinabalu.

Day 3Kota Kinabalu – Keningau - Sinua

Get pick-up from the hotel lobby by 12 pm – transfer overland to Sinua, in the Keningau, Sook district. Arrive in the evening and overnight at Trusmadi Base Camp (Sinua Trailhead).

Day 4Sinua Base Camp – Camp 2 (Mount Trusmadi)

After breakfast, begin your hike via the Sinua Trail, starting from the base camp at around 500m elevation. The trail takes you through pristine rainforest, rich in biodiversity and known for endemic orchids and pitcher plants. The trek to Camp 2 (approx. 2,200m) takes about 6–8 hours. Dinner and overnight in a basic hut or tent at Camp 2.

Day 5Base Camp 2 - Summit Push – Descent – Return to Kota Kinabalu

Wake around 2:00 AM for your final summit attempt. Ascend through steep, muddy terrain and mossy forest to reach Mount Trusmadi’s summit (2,642m) by sunrise.
