Your adventure begins with pick-up from Kota Kinabalu around 8:30 AM, heading towards the cool highlands of Kundasang. En route, make a stop at Poring Hot Springs, where you’ll walk the famous canopy walkway — a series of suspended bridges offering a thrilling treetop view of the lowland rainforest, up to 40 meters above ground. If luck is on your side, visit a blooming rafflesia, one of the world’s largest and rarest flowers. Enjoy a relaxing dip in the sulphur-rich hot spring pools, then continue to your lodge in Kundasang (approx. 1,500m elevation). Settle in and enjoy the crisp mountain air, misty views, and cool climate. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
After an early breakfast, proceed to Kinabalu Park HQ to register and collect your climbing ID. From there, you’ll be transferred to Timpohon Gate (1,866m) — the starting point of your Mount Kinabalu ascent. The trek to Pendant Hut takes about 4 to 6 hours, covering 6 km through mossy forest and alpine landscapes. Upon arrival at Pendant Hut (3,272m), check in, rest, and hydrate. At 3:30 PM, attend the mandatory Via Ferrata safety briefing and familiarization session. Dinner is served at the hut. Rest early in your shared dorm room to prepare for the summit climb.
Wake up before dawn to attempt the summit of Mount Kinabalu (4,095m). Equipped with a headlamp and guided by your mountain guide, begin your ascent around 2:00 AM, aiming to reach the peak in time for sunrise — a truly unforgettable moment above the clouds. After taking in the panoramic views, descend to the Via Ferrata starting point. Depending on your booking, you’ll begin either the Walk the Torq or the Low’s Peak Circuit via ferrata — both requiring climbers to reach the starting point by the cut-off time of 6:30 AM. After completing the via ferrata route, return to Pendant Hut for a well-earned breakfast and some much-needed rest. The remainder of the day is yours to relax, explore nearby trails, or simply enjoy the peaceful mountain setting. Overnight at Pendant Hut.
If weather or conditions prevented your summit attempt the day before, this morning offers a second chance to reach Low’s Peak. Otherwise, enjoy a slow and easy morning, with time to rest, reflect, and pack. After breakfast, check out and begin your descent back to Timpohon Gate, a journey of approximately 4 to 5 hours. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to Kinabalu Park HQ for a late lunch and certificate collection before returning to Kota Kinabalu.
