Climbing Mount Kinabalu doesn’t require any fancy technical skills, but a decent level of fitness is key, especially since the first day is all about conquering steps to the rest-house. But don’t rush—it’s not just a workout, it’s an awe-inspiring journey through different ecosystems, from lowland forests to the mystical cloud forest. As you trek, you’ll encounter an amazing variety of plants and wildlife, so it’s best to take your time and soak it all in.
This 3-day Mount Kinabalu package gives you a day to acclimatize at the Kinabalu National Park lodges before you start your climb. The adventure begins at Timpohon Gate with a 6 km hike up to Laban Rata. Expect steps along the way, and as you climb higher, the scenery shifts from lush greenery to smaller shrubs. There are plenty of shelters for rest breaks, where you can fuel up on water and snacks. Once you reach Laban Rata Hut, enjoy a warm drink at the restaurant’s outer deck, the perfect spot to take in the breathtaking sunrise over the horizon.

(Ideally noon time) Upon arrival pickup from the airport or any city center hotel and journey 2 hours to Kundasang Highland Resort stay. En-route stop at the local Nabalu Market to savour the tropical fruits found at this market. Continue on towards the Kinabalu National Park, checked in and free and easy while you enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountain.
Meals Dinner
After breakfast meet up with your mountain guide after registration and you will be given a Climbing ID Tag, which you are required to wear throughout the hike. Remember to collect your packed lunch (inform us upon making your reservation should you have dietary restrictions). Later get transferred by the National Park shuttle to Timpohon Gate, to start your 6 km hike up to Laban Rata.
Upon arrival at Laban Rata Rest House, check-in to your assigned dormitory (unisex shared dormitory). Enjoy the stunning view from the Panarlaban while waiting for dinner, which is served at 4.30 pm.
Meals Pack Lunch & Dinner
At 1.30 am and gear up, after taking your supper start the remaining 2.85 km journey with your mountain guide towards the Summit of Low’s Peak that is the highest point standing at 4095.2 meters.
*Reminder that for the safety of climber, Sabah Park has a cut-off time for the Sayat-Sayat Check Point at 5.30 am those arrived after 5.30am will not allowed to proceed with summit climb.
Watch and enjoy the spectacular shades of the sunrise over the majestic Mount Kinabalu. Take turns at the Low’s Peak summit for photos, always pay close attention to your safety when at the summit plateau especially when descending back to Laban Rata for a well earned breakfast. Check out and hike down to Timpohon Gate where the shuttle will take you to the National Park, collect your well deserve certificate.
Enjoy your late lunch at the Liwagu Restaurant, for those arriving after 4.30 pm Lunch will be converted to packed lunch. Our transfer will take you back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu or at Kundasang.
